Insurance Industry Datasets

eCityRisk licenses ready to use insurance industry disaster damage and building inventory datasets, developed using Visual Business Intelligence and Field Reconnaissance Services, which capture real-world damage to buildings and infrastructure using aerial and satellite imagery, data mining and advanced geospatial field survey techniques.

Our historic damage data covers:

  • Flood boundary
  • Storm surge damage
  • Hurricane wind damage
  • Wildfire damage

Our datasets cover the US, Europe, established and emerging Asian insurance markets and selected humanitarian catastrophes (e.g. Indian Ocean tsunami, Bam Iran earthquake). Recent applications of our disaster data archive include understanding the past performance of high-value facilities such as refineries for making underwriting decisions. It has also been used to independently validate catastrophe model results and update vulnerability functions and event sets.

Our building inventory datasets span selected cities around the World. eCityRisk's building attribute data is available immediately, via direct download from the online library. Our building inventory datasets are being used by modelling companies and brokers to develop IEDs and by re/insurers to improve existing exposure data quality and verify portfolio entries during primary and reinsurance underwriting.

Damage data for past events

The ability to predict if a certain geographic region or type of buildings, for example process facilities such as petroleum refineries and petro-chemical works, is susceptible to disasters based on what past damage has been, is an integral part of today's intelligent risk management strategies.

eCityRisk holds disaster datasets for past events falling into categories of:

  • Current events: Within the past 30 days
  • Recent events: Older than one month

Our archive includes the facility to download both eCityRisk datasets and popular public datasets (for example, FEMA, NOAA). If you can't see the data that you need, we also offer custom disaster response services.

Field reconnaissance data

Following major disasters in the US, Europe and Asia, eCityRisk has collected observation oriented data of damage to properties, infrastructure and high-value facilities. GPS-referenced images are captured from the air or at street level by our field teams using the VIEWS™ data collection system.

Historic datasets are available in Google Earth (GE) or ArcGIS shapefile format. If you can't see the data that you need, we also undertake custom field reconnaissance missions.

Building inventory databases

eCityRisk sells databases of geocoded building attributes (including structural type, age and occupancy) and photographs for selected US cities. Developed by eCityRisk's field data collection and interpretations teams, which include structural engineering experts, these datasets provide a truly a accurate picture of your exposure, as it looks on the ground.

If you don't see inventory data for the facility or city that you want, we also develop custom inventory databases.
